Fegans is celebrating being awarded a grant of £97,500 by BBC Children in Need, to continue to help make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Kent and Sussex.

This amazing donation, paid over three years, will go towards one to one counselling to support vulnerable children and provide them with a safe space to share their problems and ultimately help them move forward with their lives.

The BBC CiN project started in September this year and we are aiming for the following outcomes

1.       The children and young people will have improved resilience

2.       Children and young people will have a greater positive outlook

3.       Children and young people will have a better ability to make healthy choices

Fegans works with many children who have experienced emotional and/or physical trauma. These include children who:

• suffer neglect or abuse; who are badly parented, who experience trauma or bereavement, resulting in insecure attachments.

• struggle with emotional and mental issues – self-harm, eating disorders, anger issues, anxiety, depression or threatening suicide.

• are socially disadvantaged.

Fegans’ counselling re-orientates children’s perspectives of themselves to enable positive self-image and greatly increase emotional resilience.

Currently in the UK, only 25% of children needing professional therapeutic support get it. Financially disadvantaged children suffer disproportionally as they cannot pay for private help when facing mental health issues. Fegans can offer counselling services at a reduced charitable rate because of the kindness of donors and the generosity of funders such as BBC Children in Need.
